What it is

A synthetic peptide that stimulates melanin production, causing skin tanning. Not an anabolic steroid. Injected subcutaneously. Also causes appetite suppression and can increase libido. Not approved for human use anywhere in the world. Widely promoted in appearance-focused communities.

What it does

Produces a tan without UV exposure. Also used by some for erectile dysfunction and appetite suppression. Works by stimulating melanocyte receptors in the skin. Effects develop gradually over days to weeks of use.

Typical dosages

Loading phase: 0.25-0.5mg per day subcutaneously for 2-3 weeks. Maintenance: 0.5mg once or twice per week. Dosing protocols vary widely due to no clinical guidance. This is not a recommendation; it is what is commonly reported.

These figures reflect commonly reported usage in harm reduction communities. They are not recommendations. There is no safe dose of anabolic steroids for non-medical use. Start low and monitor your health through blood work.

Side effects

  • Nausea (common, especially at first)
  • Facial flushing
  • Darkening of existing moles (makes melanoma harder to detect)
  • Appetite suppression
  • Increased libido
  • Fatigue and dizziness
  • Injection site reactions

Specific risks

  • Melanoma: linked to melanoma in multiple case reports. The mechanism of action (stimulating melanocyte activity) is directly relevant to skin cancer pathways
  • Mole changes: darkening of existing moles makes self-monitoring for melanoma significantly more difficult. Users may not notice a dangerous mole changing because all their moles have darkened
  • Unregulated: purity, dosage, and composition of products are unreliable. There is no quality control
  • Cardiovascular: cardiovascular effects have been reported in some users, though data is limited

What to watch for

  • Any mole changing shape, size, colour, or becoming asymmetric (see a doctor immediately)
  • New moles appearing
  • Persistent nausea that does not improve
  • Unusual fatigue or cardiovascular symptoms
  • Take photographs of all moles before starting to track changes
