What it is

One of the most powerful oral steroids available. Originally developed to treat anaemia and muscle-wasting conditions. 17-alpha-alkylated for oral bioavailability. Produces rapid, dramatic effects but with an equally dramatic side effect profile.

What it does

Produces rapid, dramatic mass and strength gains. Significant water retention contributes to the weight gain. Often used as a kickstart to injectable cycles while waiting for longer esters to take effect. Effects are noticeable within the first week.

Typical dosages

50-100mg per day is commonly reported. Should only be used for short periods (4-6 weeks maximum). Should never be stacked with other oral steroids. Must be run with a testosterone base. Not suitable for beginners under any circumstances. This is not a recommendation; it is what is commonly reported.

These figures reflect commonly reported usage in harm reduction communities. They are not recommendations. There is no safe dose of anabolic steroids for non-medical use. Start low and monitor your health through blood work.

Side effects

  • Extremely hepatotoxic (arguably the most liver-toxic oral steroid in common use)
  • Significant oestrogen-related side effects despite not directly aromatising (acts on progesterone receptors)
  • Severe impact on cholesterol
  • Blood pressure spikes
  • Headaches, nausea, and appetite loss at higher doses
  • Significant water retention and bloating
  • Suppression of natural testosterone
  • Back pumps

Specific risks

  • Liver: extreme hepatotoxicity. Liver support is essential and liver values must be monitored. Cases of peliosis hepatis (blood-filled cysts in the liver) have been reported with prolonged use
  • Blood pressure: the combination of water retention and increased blood volume can cause dangerous blood pressure spikes. Home monitoring is critical
  • Oestrogen management: despite not aromatising directly, Anadrol causes oestrogen-related side effects through a different mechanism. Standard aromatase inhibitors may not fully address this
  • Not for beginners: the potency and side effect severity make this unsuitable for anyone without significant experience managing on-cycle health markers

What to watch for

  • Blood pressure (monitor daily, above 140/90 is a concern, above 160/100 requires immediate action)
  • Jaundice or yellowing of the skin/eyes (serious liver stress)
  • Upper right abdominal pain (liver)
  • Persistent nausea or loss of appetite (liver stress or blood pressure)
  • Severe headaches (often blood pressure related)
  • Nipple sensitivity or gynecomastia symptoms
