Needle Exchanges
If you inject, using clean equipment every time is one of the most important things you can do for your health.
How to find your nearest needle exchange
Needle and syringe programmes (NSPs) are available across the UK. They provide free sterile injecting equipment, safe disposal bins, and confidential advice. Many pharmacies participate — look for the sign in the window, or ask at the counter.
Ask your local pharmacy
Many high-street pharmacies run needle exchange programmes. You do not need an appointment. Just ask.
Contact your local drug service
Local drug and alcohol services can point you to the nearest NSP. Use the NHS service finder above.
Sexual health clinics
Some sexual health clinics also provide sterile injecting equipment.
Remember: Needle exchanges are completely anonymous and confidential. They exist because sharing needles spreads blood-borne viruses. No one will report you, judge you, or ask unnecessary questions.
Talking to Your GP About Steroid Use
Your GP can help more than you think — and they have heard it all before.
Many people who use steroids avoid their GP out of fear of being judged or getting into trouble. But your GP is bound by strict confidentiality — using steroids is not a crime (possession for personal use is legal in the UK), and your doctor cannot share your information with anyone without your consent.
What your GP can do:
Tips for the conversation
- 1.Be direct: "I use anabolic steroids and I want to monitor my health." GPs appreciate honesty.
- 2.If your GP reacts badly, you can switch GPs. Not all doctors have experience with steroid users, but many do.
- 3.Bring a list of what you are taking, including doses. This helps your GP give you the best advice.
- 4.Ask specifically for bloods: full blood count, liver function, lipids, testosterone, LH, FSH, oestradiol.
Everything is anonymous
Using steroids for personal use is legal in the UK. Every helpline, service, and resource listed on this page is confidential. Nobody will report you. Nobody will judge you. The only goal is to keep you safe.
